Using a bright hand held light enables the optician to check the eyes internal structures. Problems here can be caused by Diabetes, Glaucoma, Hypertension, Cataracts and Macular Degeneration. Because the onset of many eye conditions is slow, regular eye examinations can pinpoint potential problems before they can develop and early treatment usually ensures successful recovery.

Tonometry puffs air into your eye to measure the pressure inside it. If the pressure is too high, this may indicate Glaucoma which, if left untreated, could result in blindness

The visual field test checks your all round vision. Any loss can also indicate Glaucoma or neurological problems.
